Erster Arbeitstag und Besuch einer Ausstellungseröffnung

Monday was the first day we really started working on the renovation of the Rainbow. We started by cleaning the outer surface of the wood in which the Rainbow is made of. Our aim was to get rid of the old colours, which were not so nice anymore. As we where doing it, we learned that grinders can be really heavy and also quite dangerous Marta, part of a working group was hurt in her arm and went with Matthias to the hospital in Preetz. The hospital was very well-organised (like usual in Germany). The doctor was very nice and quickly stitched the injury. For Dagmawi using the grinder machine was easy, because he was already using it in Ethiopia.

After we finished working on the Rainbow, we went to an exhibition in Hamburg about oppression of homosexuals in Germany. We were listening to four different speeches and learned, that all homosexuals in Germany were persecuted in the third realm and after that until 1969.
The speeches were framed in lovely choral singings of the homosexual choir called “Batenoba” in which Thomas and Matthias are members.

At the end it became quite lengthy and boring.

Later Dagmawi told us that it was a real interesting exhibition for him as one can say because from the background he comes from, Ethiopia, they have strong religion which they are following and practicing a strict religion. Thus, it would not be practical to see this much homosexuals let alone in public. One could even say that such a culture would not happen in the next 20 years in Ethiopia. So the churches in Ethiopia are strictly against that issue, while we in Germany for example we also have homosexual pastors and employ
